Here is the life story of our little Angel....
When Jen was 5 months pregnant she went in for a routine ultrasound. The Dr noticed several possible strange things. He ordered another ultrasound (one that could see more). The Dr. told us that our baby girl had several deformities and hydrocephalus and would probably never survive birth and if she did she might only live a few hours. Jen picked out the name Angel for our little girl and decided to leave the future up to God.
Angel was born 3 weeks early June 27, 2001 and was in the NICU at CHOC. The Dr.s were still unsure how long Angel had to live. We were told things about her that we had never heard of and did not know what they were. (Arthrogryposis,Microcephaly,Hydrocephalus). The Dr.s said that Angel had a brain malformation (that still has yet to be determined) and Angel had only aprox. 25% of her brain. We really did not know what to do. All we could do was to hold her and pray for the best.
When Angel was 8 days old we were shocked and thrilled that the Dr wanted us to take Angel home. Over the next 18 months Angel has had two major surgeries and spends 3 hours a week in physical therapy. Angel is about 28lbs, 34 inches long and is just starting to learn to roll over. We won't go into all the things the Dr's thought she could not ever do. Angel can smile, laugh, and seems to know our voices. The best thing is waking her up in the morning and seeing her smile at you. Angel seems to be very happy and loves life.December 2004, well Angel is doing great!. She started school in September and has 8 other classmates. Angel goes to therapy two times a week and gets many hours of stimulation from her little brother. She has learned how to grab at objects with both hands and can flex her knees and stand for a few seconds. Angel still has that great laugh......THANKS FOR ALL YOUR PRAYERS AND SUPPORT.
On January 6, 2005 Angel had a wish granted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Angel's wish was to go to DisneyWolrd. Angel went to DisneyWorld with her parents and little brother D.J. Angel's wish was WONDERFUL. Angel's dad(Doug) even got to push Angel in the DisneyWorld Marathon-on January 9, 2005 - Doug & Angel Finished their 3rd Marathon together!
Angel went to the ER on July 28, 2005. Angel had her shunt replaced on July 30th and spent a few days recovering.
September -2005, Angel has started her second year of school and is doing Great. She has 7 other wonderful and special classmates.
Angel was a special guest for the Marathon of the Palm Beaches. Doug and Angel raced on Dec. 4, 2005 and finished their 6th Marathon!
Jan. 2, 2006...we rushed Angel to the ER because she seemed to be very ill. Angel spent 6 days in the hospital and the doctors could not find anything wrong. Angel has not slept well for 15 days and wakes up 4-5 times a night crying.....
January 27,2007.... Angel is doing GREAT.....taking steps in her walker - trying to stand - eating a few bites of baby food each week - enjoying her little brother that loves her so much!!!!! We are all looking forward to a wonderful year.
Angel has been diagnosed with the following:
* Arthrogryposis - multiple muscular-skeletal deformities
* Hydrocephalus - is the abnormal buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricles of the brain.
* Microcephaly - head size that is significantly below normal for a person's age and sex, based on standardized charts. Microcephaly most often occurs because of failure of the brain to grow at a normal rate. Skull growth is determined by brain expansion, which takes place during the normal growth of the brain during pregnancy.
*A brain malformation that still has yet to be determined?
* Angel was born with aprox. 25% of her brain, has dislocated hips, two conjoined fingers on each hand, two toes on each foot and she has 1 kidney.
* Malrotated large intestine.
Surgeries:
* Angel under went surgery to have a shunt placed in her head on 8/2/01.
* She had to have a G-tube (feeding tube) put in on 6/02.
* Angel underwent bilateral hindfoot reconstructive surgery for a clubfoot deformity on 1/25/02 (on both feet).
* Angel had her shunt replaced on 1/9/04
* Angel had her shunt replaced (again) on 7/30/2005
